Content & Data
Standardized asset master API covering all asset types, identifiers, currencies, and historical reference data on an instrument. Records are queryable over time, and by one of any known identifier (Symbol, proprietary identifer, PAIX ID, or market-provided identifier). Data is linked directly to the Portfolio Data APIs on the standardized PAIX ID for each instrument, allowing for easy reference and filtering.
Transactions and Positions
Accurate and timely daily activity and valuation data is a core requirement for understanding and evaluating a portfolio, especially a portfolio that has a range of investment types, asset classes, and custodial banks.
Benchmarks and Indices
Benchmarks and indices give the investor the means to do comparisons and measure against goals. DiFi captures not only the benchmark/index returns, but in addition the benchmark/index components. This allows a greater level of detail supporting the asset allocation lifecycle.
One of the most important criteria for judging the value of an investment is the return on investment. DiFi provides flexible sets of performance returns for each individual investment along with performance returns on groups and hierarchies of portfolios taken together.
Portfolio and Accounts
Portfolios and accounts represent a series of relationships among the components of a strategy, a family, or an investment plan. We will structure these portfolio relationships to model the real world so that the derived data is the most meaningful.
Tax Lots and Cost Basis
It is important to see both the total position for each instrument as well as each of the various purchases (tax lots) that together comprise the position. Understanding which tax lot might be sold (and when) in order to optimize tax liability is an absolute necessity.
Private Equity investments are somewhat opaque. Statements are quarterly and movements in the underlying companies are not easily understood nor available. DiFi will capture not only the contents of capital statements but in addition, the underlying capital calls and distributions are tracked and integrated with all of the other investments in order to view the entire investment landscape.
There are a number of cases where we need to see all of our transactional data back for a number of years. In many cases, DiFi can capture a rich history of transactions and valuations over time. Further, all data in the DiFi infrastructure is kept indefinitely for ongoing analysis.
In many cases we are not aware of the implications of which investments we hold at different institutions and in the various funds and ETFs. The Security Master gives us transparency into what we hold in the portfolio, independent of how it is held. The Security Master also provides a common way of providing consistent reference data, asset classifications, and naming.
Research involved comparing and weighing the parameters of various investments. Reference data gives us the means to do the apples-to-apples comparisons needed in order to evaluate various instruments and investments.
Reference data includes:
- Corporate Actions
- FX Rates
The general ledger is the crossing point between investment and accounting. How can we enable our clients to classify and maintain the relationship between their investment assets and their chart of accounts? DiFi provides a Chart of Accounts that can be used to categorize all transaction types as belonging to specific GL accounts, easing the divide between asset management and cash management.
